Meet Kurt G. Sarringhaus, Shareholder. Kurt has been practicing law in Oberlin, Ohio, for over 45 years. Kurt has lived in Ohio his entire life, fostering his desire to travel and see the world. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio and raised in Middletown, Ohio, both in the southwestern part of the State. He attended Monroe High School in Middletown (graduated in 1969), and graduated from Ohio University (1973). Kurt graduated from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1976 and has been a practicing lawyer in Oberlin, Ohio since September of that year.
Kurt and his wife Marcia have been married for over 45 years and have three (3) daughters, who are scattered throughout the globe, along with grandchildren.
Kurt’s current intentions are to continue to practice law indefinitely. He loves traveling (Africa is a favorite), he is a heavy-duty gardener, he enjoys the movies and is an avid (some would say fanatical) OSU Football fan. Above all else, he values his family and friends.

Meet Carmen M. Scott (Verhosek), Shareholder. Carmen was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated cum laude from Cleveland State College of Law. Prior to law school, Carmen was an Elder Law Paralegal for 15 years. Her practice focuses on issues that impact the aging community and individuals with disabilities. With a deep understanding of the complexities involved in these areas, Carmen is dedicated to providing personalized legal solutions that meet your unique needs.
Carmen is a powerful force in the workplace and zealous advocate providing guidance and support to her clients by helping them prepare a plan for a better quality of life, preserve their wealth and legacy, and protect their future. She is passionate about missions that educate, empower, and help build sustainable communities and is active in organizations that further those missions.
Carmen serves as Chair for the Board of Trustees for the Hispanic Business Center for Economic Development. The Center dedicates its efforts to helping individuals start and grow their businesses while encouraging their economic development and supporting them through business programs and services. She also serves on the pro bono committee of the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland.

Meet Pamela M. Spargo, Associate Attorney, named among the Super Lawyer Rising Star List, 2024.
Pam’s primary practice areas include Medicaid Planning, Asset Protection, and Estate Planning. Pam has unique insight from her time working at Lorain County Department of Job and Family Services where she processed Medicaid applications and determined client eligibility. Through her experience she has a particularly exceptional understanding of the policy and procedural requirements pertaining to program eligibility which she conveys in her practice.
Pam’s true passion is advocacy and assisting her clients through what may be a very difficult time in their lives. Through strategic planning, she strives to alleviate various stressors in her clients’ lives as many face the prospect of requiring long-term care for themselves or a loved one. She takes care to provide her clients with the information they need to make an educated decision that best fulfills their needs and goals.
Pam attended law school at Cleveland State University College of Law where she was acknowledged for her outstanding academic performance as recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in the study of Health Law, the Kermit Lind Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice, and the Cleveland-Marshall Award for Outstanding Student in the Civil Litigation Clinic. She graduated from law school Cum Laude in May 2022 as proud member of the Women Law Students Association. Pam also received her Dual Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences degree in Sociology and Criminology from Cleveland State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2016. She was the recipient of the Distinguished Student Award in 2016 as a Sociology student.
Pam got married in October 2024 and enjoys spending as much time as possible with her husband, family and friends.

Ashley M. Milas
Meet Ashley M. Milas, Legal Assistant. Ashley M. Milas has been Kurt G. Sarringhaus’ Legal Assistant since 2010.
Ashley was born in Beaver, Pennsylvania, but moved to Ohio at the age of five. She is a graduate of Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst, Ohio, and received an Associates Degree in Business Administration from LCCC.
Ashley currently lives in Lorain, Ohio with her husband, Justin, and their two (2) children, Jayden and Austin, who are following in her footsteps going through the Amherst School District.
Ashley enjoys golfing and spending time in the pool with her family during our warm months and traveling to the warmer climates with a beach as often as possible.

Lisa Lawlis
Meet Lisa Lawlis, Secretary. Lisa graduated from Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst, OH. She worked in the insurance industry as a licensed property & casualty agent for 37 years prior to joining Sarringhaus & Scott Co, L.P.A. Most of those years were spent right here in Oberlin at the Sperry-Gorske Agency, now known as Gorske-Schlather.
Lisa is an active 4-H advisor in Lorain County and enjoys working with the youth in the program. In her spare time, she also enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lisa also enjoy camping and traveling.
Secretary
Christine L. Sayler
Meet Christine L. Sayler, Secretary. Chris first met Kurt in 1976 when she was a new legal secretary for Barry Eckstein across the hall from Kurt's first law office. Chris went on to work at UAW legal services as the office manager for 15 years. She came back to Oberlin and worked in the finance division of Oberlin College for 20 years, retiring in 2018. Working part-time for Kurt has been a great "retirement job" for her.
Chris and her husband, "Chicago" Jerry Grakauskas, live in Florence Township, where Chris has lived most of her life. She has three grown children, four grown step-children, seven grandchildren and twelve step-grandchildren. Chris enjoys traveling, especially to Hawaii, bicycling, running, scuba, diving and watching her husband, race dirt bikes all over the country.
